Default 2007 Disc Brake Recall

If no one has heard of this, it might be interesting to look into.

Trailers and Fifth Wheels

"Disc brake systems manufactured by Active Technology and installed in 359 MY 2007 Elite Suites, Mobile Suites, and Select Suites fifth wheels by Double Tree RV could overheat, causing damage to the brakes. This has prompted a recall of these vehicles by the manufacturer because of the possible fire hazard and risk of a crash. Double Tree and Active Technology are working together on the repairs. "

More info:

Active Technology is working with DoubleTree RV to recall 359 Actibrake electric-hydraulic actuators, Part No. AB-1-14.

These actuators are used on hydraulic disc brakes and installed as original equipment on certain DoubleTree trailers. The trailer wiring configuration of the circuit breaker allows high current to be continuously applied to the Actibrake even after the trailer circuit breaker is tripped and the 30 amp fuse on the Actibrake is blown. Therefore there is a situation where the 50 amp breaker in the trailer wiring does not protect the Actibrake battery charger circuit from over-current.

Trailer brakes are not operative with an incapacitated brake actuator, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash. Active Technology is working with DoubleTree to notify owners and repair the trailers (please see 08V040). 08E-007.

Not sure, but they still have an active web page???

Also DRV has to stand behind the recall even if they went out of bus.

Another link for the recall notice:

Never received anything from DRV but did the mickey mouse rewire and put a catch tray under the actuator as suggested by others on the internet about a year ago. I figure if you need to put a tray under the actuator to catch leaking fluid, you should get a different actuator. I didn't though. Shows you how smart I am.

If I had a 2007 with Disc Brakes, I would be calling DRV and ask what they are doing regaqrding the recall.

My Actibrake actuator melted down allowing all the hydraulic fluid to go all over my basement. This of course happened while on the curvy and hilly trip from Branson to Memphis, leaving me with no trailer brakes. I really didn't know it until I got home and thought it was causing the truck to brake harder than usual. DRV working with my dealer in Memphis replaced mine with a Carlisle unit which is all metal and with the HBA-CAM module works great with my Ford IBC brake controller. They had no choice on mine, it had to be replaced. If I remember correctly, they are not replacing the entire units and are just rewiring them and putting a small weep hole and drip pan in case you have a leak.
